Harvard President Alan Garber admits lack of conservative views on campus is a ‘problem’
Harvard University President Alan Garber has admitted that a lack of conservatives and fear of voicing “unpopular” opinions on campus are problems the Ivy League needs to address.
“The administration and others have said conservatives are too few on campus and their views are not welcome,” Harvard President Alan Garber said.
“And it’s particularly concerning when people have views that they think are unpopular. And the administration and others have said conservatives are too few on campus and their views are not welcome. In so far as that’s true, that’s a problem we really need to address.”
“In so far as that’s true…”
Well, are there any, you know, indicators that might help us to unravel this puzzle? You know, like cases of the Harvard administration and faculty putting their money where their minds are? Maybe the iconic Harvard Crimson can help us out…
Harvard Faculty Overwhelmingly Donated to Democrats Ahead of 2024 Election
Members of Harvard’s governing boards and faculty donated more than $2.3 million to political candidates and causes ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, a Crimson analysis found.
The analysis, which comes just 10 days before Americans head to the polls, found that 94 percent of political contributions from Harvard affiliates went to Democratic candidates, with the majority going toward Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
The liberal skew of faculty and governing board members’ donations continues a long-standing trend at Harvard. In the 2020 election cycle, affiliates also donated overwhelmingly to Democratic candidates.
Or how about Open Secrets, the non-partisan organization that tracks and reports on where the money comes from and goes to in the world of political bribes donations?
Total Contributions by Party of Recipient:
Note that this is not a new state of affairs. 35 years ago, the ratio was “only” 86.3% in favor of Dem money from the Harvard mandarins, or six bucks and change to the Donkeys for every buck dropped into the Elephant bucket. That’s not a disparity, its a whitewash for the Dem team over the GOP, and it’s only gotten worse over the years.
He went on to say the elite school has been “very clear” of late that they do believe they have issues — particularly surrounding free speech.
“We think it’s a real problem if — particularly a research university’s — students don’t feel free to speak their minds, when faculty feel that they have to think twice before they talk about the subjects that they’re teaching. That’s a real problem that we need to address,” he said.
There’s an interesting bit of waffle-shaped gaslighting going on here, by the way. New Prexy Garber, perhaps mindful of what happened to his arrogant, stone-walling, plagiarist predecessor, is being a bit more conciliatory. Or is he?
“And it’s particularly concerning when people have views that they think are unpopular.”
“We think it’s a real problem if — particularly a research university’s — students don’t feel free to speak their minds, when faculty feel that they have to think twice before they talk about the subjects that they’re teaching…”
In other words, this particular waffle is buttered on both sides. His anodyne breast beating would apply equally well to those calling for the genocide of Jews, or the castration/mass murder of white males, as it would for any conservatives made nervous or hesitant about speaking their conservative minds in the sea of cocktail commies that is today’s Harvard, root and branch.
What about the student body, though? We know their teachers and their administrators would not be that upset by finding themselves in a Marxist-only Only Fans page, but is that affecting the young minds they are charged with educating and molding into productive American citizens?
Here’s the Harvard Crimson again:
Political Allegiances
The majority of respondents to the senior survey, or 59 percent, described their views as progressive or very progressive prior to coming to Harvard. Seniors roughly maintained their political views through graduation, with approximately 55 percent identifying as progressive or very progressive when they responded to the survey.
The portion of the class that reported conservative or very conservative views remained stable, at 13 percent prior to entering Harvard and at graduation. The number of surveyed students identifying as moderate expanded from 21 percent to 25 percent over the course of the class’s time at Harvard. Female respondents were more likely to be progressive than male respondents, aligning with recent national trends.
Surprisingly, they seem to have had little effect. Their students entered their care overwhelmingly as progressives, and left as overwhelmingly progressive. If anything, this faculty had a mild moderating influence on the progressive leanings of its student body.
And here is the most irritating how stupid does he think we are aspect of Garber’s remarks. He’s trying to pretend (see: Gaslight Waffle) that Harvard became a hotbed of hard left dogma as nasty as anything Stalin ever mandated just because. It just happened.
It has nothing to do with the fact that people just like him worked their tenured tails off for decades to make damned sure that it happened. And unless you are really stupid, you’ll understand that Garber, and those just like him will keep right on working their tails off to make damned sure it stays that way.
Don’t be stupid.
Burn it down.
Dan Bongino Promises More Coming on Jeffrey Epstein Files; Another Nothingburger?
Exactly. Less promising, more doing, please.
Say, that Bondi/Patel/Bongino traveling roadshow has been kind of a bust, hasn’t it?
Gary Bolyer Meals-n-Minutes
Can someone please explain it to me like I am 5 why people are angry at the person who is uncovering government waste and fraud instead of the people who are actually committing the waste and fraud?
Happy to.
There are two groups who are angry about the Great Uncovering.
The first group consists of amoral, evil grifters who are profiting hugely from government waste, fraud, and abuse. It includes the denizens in the murkier pools of the deeps state, and their hand(job)maidens in the corporate and NGO world. (Hi there, Anthony Fauci, how you doin’?)
The second group includes the Normies, midwits (if we are being kind) who have been, through laziness, ignorance, or simple stupidity, terminally afflicted with a crippling Normalcy Bias, which is their only protection against emotional disintegration if forced to confront reality as it actually is, rather than as they wish it to be.
All good now?
Unveiled: Gynocrats’ Brave and Stunning Strategy to Woo Back Male Voters
The Democrat machine has the answer: $20 million funneled to the same consultant class that lost the last election to figure out why young men hate them and interrupt their video games with Democrat pro-tranny ads to castrate themselves for gender Equity™.
Via The New York Times (emphasis added):
“The gender gap — which had long benefited Democrats — helped Republicans in 2024 as men swung harder to the right.
Now, top party officials, activists and donors are broadly weighing how to rebuild, and reassessing how to speak to voters, how to listen to them and how to reach those who have tuned out entirely…
What they mean, of course, is not speak to “voters,” but “male voters who are increasingly voting for the GOP because the Donks treat them like shit and want them to die."
It is code-named SAM — short for “Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan” — and promises investment to “study the syntax, language and content that gains attention* and virality in these spaces.” It recommends buying advertisements in video games, among other things.
Because I loathe Democrats and everything they stand for, I find this curiously reassuring. Since they will always be utterly convinced of their own rightness about everything, they have only one hammer and will use it on every nail they see, including this one. “If we just find a better way to get our message across, these stupid, gullible men will switch back to us.”
It is never a problem with the message, just the messaging. And they are just suicidally stupid enough to believe that to, “interrupt their video games with Democrat pro-tranny ads to castrate themselves for gender Equity™ is the answer.
More just like this, please.
Attorney General Bondi Sends the American Bar Association Packing
Attorney General Pam Bondi informed the far-left American Bar Association that they will no longer have any role in selecting judicial nominees. Attorney General Bondi said they will “no longer have the access they’ve taken for granted.”
Nominees also won’t be responding to ABA questions any longer. ABA ratings have heavily influenced whether individuals were even nominated in the first place.
Long overdue. The ABA is deliberately a Marxist front group, and should have no place in selecting our judiciary. Of course this Commie Coffeeklatch will continue to make recommendations, and certain entities will continue to pay attention to them, but at least there will be no formal requirement for them to do so.
Now, let’s do The Federalist Society, which gifted us with stellar appointments like Elizabeth Coney-Barrett and Bret “Kuckboy” Kavanaugh. Most odious, of course, is Coney-Barrett (“coney,” by the way, is another term for “bunny rabbit”), who, in combination with John “It’s a tax because I say it’s a tax, dammit!”) Roberts make up the deadly duo I call “Bobby Barret,” which wields the all-powerful swing vote on the Supreme Court. Forget those three actually conservative men on the court, it’s Bobby-Barrett you have to win over to succeed. So much for the purported “right wing court.”
30% Weight Loss in a Week? The Metabolic “Kill Switch” Scientists Just Discovered
Scientists genetically altered mice so they couldn’t make the amino acid cysteine and fed them a diet completely lacking it. In just one week, the mice lost a staggering 30% of their body weight.
This dramatic weight loss was due to a breakdown in energy metabolism caused by the depletion of coenzyme A, a molecule critical to turning food into energy.
Having struggled with weight issues for much of my adult life, and having recently lost 40% of my bodyweight (105 pounds) using Mounjaro, I am naturally interested in all aspects of human weight issues.
What’s astounding about this research is the fact that it is possible to lose 30% of your bodyweight in one week. At least if you’re a mouse. Left undetermined is whether such a loss is possible in humans, but it certainly is an eye-opener, and tends to stand on its ear almost all conventional nutritional thinking about weight loss. I’ll follow up on this research and keep reporting anything new.
Maximum Pressure
I think it’s admirable that they were willing to try 18 rounds of sanctions before resorting to “maximum pressure”. I mean, who wouldn’t be intimidated by “all the tools” being used against them. No doubt Putin and the Russian generals are quaking. If this doesn’t have the Russians waving the white flag and withdrawing their 650,000 troops from the Crimea and the Donbass, I wonder what the next rhetorical step will be?
Supermaximum pressure?
I would think Trump would be aware of how the State Department is making both himself and the USA look like a laughingstock on the global stage. He can’t even call off Israel, so how impressed does he really expect the Russians to be?
As he often is, Vox Day is right on the money here.
Trump has no cards to play against Russia either in the Ukraine, or anywhere else. Russia has only grown stronger as the sanctions grew more numerous. There is even a reasonably believable theory that the “sanctions war” is a primary driver behind Russia’s growing strength, because they it forced the nation to become more self sufficient and make more of what it needs for itself. If so, that trend in likely to continue, and the “mother (and father and brothers and sisters and nephews and cousins) of all sanctions” will probably grow even more counterproductive than they already are.
I assume Trump already knows all this, but he has to deal with rabid, frothing neo-cons who want to foment nuclear war with Russia, if that’s what it takes to destroy their personal bete noir (folks forget that Samson also destroyed himself when he destroyed the temple), but nobody ever accused the neo-cons of being all that tightly wrapped to reality. Not to mention the RINO wing of his party, whose members also despise him, because in their case “Republican In Name Only” is just a shorthand way of avoiding describing their true political affiliation, which is the Deep State and the grease it copiously provides to them. Both wings hate and fear Trump, and are doing everything they can to bring him down, see him fail, destroy him. And that doesn’t even touch the Socialist Democrats, who, since they are all atheists and can’t call him Satan, settle for Hitler Hitler Hitler and call for his murder.
It’s a tough line to walk, and Putin has been doing it a lot longer, and under a lot more pressure than Trump has. I expect Trump to end the charade sooner rather than later, or else stand back and watch Putin end it. I’ll have a followup piece on that shortly.
Hi, Bill. Couple of things. First, the idiotic gender gap talk began in 1984 when Reagan crushed Mondale and won a majority of the female vote but not as big as his majority male vote. The Leftist media just had to find something bad.
Since then the so-called gender gap has been driven solely by the fact that 97% of Black female voters voted Dem. Republicans still usually won the white female vote. As more Hisanic female voters arrived, they added a bit to the gender gap numbers, but they never, ever voted 97% for Dems.
In 2024 the Black female vote -- 6% of the overall total -- dropped to 92% for Harris. That single fact should scare Dems big time. And undoubtedly does among those reasonably smart and aware of Reality.
Anyway. On a personal level I have not been here much. My wife died unexpectedly in late January. She was only 57. Since then I have been emotionally very distraught, have moved to the Illinois side of the St Louis area to be near family, and have been trying to put together some kind of new life.
That included closing rather a lot of accounts, including the credit card I used to subscribe here. After getting a couple of emails I stirred myself enough to resubscribe with a new card.
I have been, and still am to some extent, a mess, to be clear. But I am slowly getting back to things that I enjoy, and reading your substack is one of them. It hels me feel normal.
Thanks.
Those Harvard numbers point to something very important: political views tend to get formed during high school, not college.
